Gameplay

Similar to its predecessor, Kirby Air Riders is a racer in which Riders use Air Ride Machines to race through courses, do battle with one another, or collect power-ups on Skyah. Unlike Kirby Air Ride, King Dedede and Meta Knight, alongside other characters, can be used throughout all the game's modes, and can use different Air Ride Machines as well. The gameplay is overall the same as the predecessor. Players automatically accelerate, using a single button on activate Boost Charges, captures enemies, and use Copy Abilites. This game, however, introduces a second button used primarily to activate a powerful move unique to each character that can be used to speed up and attack foes for a short time.

Riders

All characters besides Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight are new. Every character can use Copy Abilities, and each character also has a powerful Special that can be activated once the meter is charged. Enjoys easy acceleration and smooth maneuvering. Golden Waddle Dee Bandana Waddle Dee A sturdy rider who builds Boost Charge quickly. His trusty spear stings rivals like a hornet! Spear Cyclone Waddle Doo Keeps an eye on nearby rivals, then hits 'em with a peeper-powered arc of optic blasts! Waddle Doo Barrage Chef Kawasaki A culinary genius who always has a ladle handy! Recovers an extra amount from food items. Superspicy Cooking Knuckle Joe A fierce fighter who jabs at riders that come too close. Charge up fully for a flurry of punches! Knuckle Rush Rick A heavy, hamster-y animal friend who handles corners nimbly and can sprint on foot like a pro. Rip-Roaring Rick Gooey An odd creature of mysterious origin. Makes skillful use of his long, wiggly tongue. Mock Dark Matter Cappy The mushroom cap doubles as a protective cushion. Race ahead of rivals before it falls apart! Booster Cap Rocky Small in size but super sturdy. This heavyweight won't slip or shake easily! Meteor Rocky Scarfy A perfectly polite rider... Up until loses its cool. When it gets mad, it gets fast! Scarfy's Losin' It Starman Excels at airborne maneuvers. Jump for a burst of speed and soar right over your rivals! Super Starman Lololo & Lalala A duo of troublemakers riding together as one! Swap positions with a simple Quick Spin, Emerald Framer Marx A friendly face hiding in the dark and twisted schemes. Has impressive stats but can't take a hit. True-Form Marx Daroach A sneaky, squeaky thief. Scratch a snatch up rival Copy Abilities, then vanish in a flash. Sneaky Dash Magolor A sly spell caster who accelerates a lot after Star Slides. Attack rivals ahead of you with perfect landings! Magolor Cannon Taranza A clever arachnid with tight controls. Web and sling around corners for extra speed bursts of speed! In addition to star-type and bike-type machines, two more categories of machines exists: chariot-type, which drives on two sets of wheels instead of one or none; and tank-type, which features treads that alternate between hovering when moving normally and making contact with the ground when Boost Charging. Wagon Star Can't Boost Charge, but makes up for it with higher performance in other categories. Slick Star Slippery and tricky to control, but offers a wholly unique approach to riding. Unlike Air Ride, all Top Ride courses are new. Course Image Description Flower Speed up with gusts from the windmill! Take a ride along the rotating floors on this flowery lane. Flow Slip through the rising tides, then hop onto a water pillar for a huge jump! Air Use clouds to leap over bridges and ride twisters to go airborne. Crystal Jump across the ramp and show those corners who's boss! The sparkling crystals will light the way. Steam Brave moving walls and high-speed lifts. Different features on the course can easily turn the tide of a race! Cave Cyber Mountain Grab falling items from the cable transports! Make your way down the mountain while enjoying the fall foliage.
