Physical Appearance

As the name suggests, Noir Dedede greatly resembles a dark version of King Dedede. Notable differences are that it wears a ragged robe, has two exhaust pipes coming out of where the left eye would be, has spiky black "hair" reminiscent of Dark Matter 's swordsman form, has a tattered scarf covering its mouth area, and has various belts across its torso.

History

Noir Dedede is a fragment of Zorah 's will that escaped before Gigantes was built. It took on a form resembling King Dedede and sought to prevent Gigantes from being activated by intercepting incoming riders and destroying their machines.

Road Trip

Noir Dedede first appears in Stage 4, where it ambushes the rider in a mandatory encounter. Thereafter, it occasionally appears as an intruder, replacing one of the opponents for the rider to face off against and gain the optional memories to view. Once the rider reaches the end of The Farthest Reach and defeats Gigantes, Noir Dedede makes a last ditch effort to destroy Gigantes once and for all by making a mad dash toward it. Here, the rider has a final race against Noir Dedede to reach Gigantes first; if Noir Dedede reaches Gigantes, it self-destructs, creating a massive explosion. If the rider succeeds in overtaking Noir Dedede and reaching Gigantes first, they will pierce through Gigantes and cause it to explode without activating the self-destruct; Noir Dedede will then dematerialize, leaving his custom Wheelie Bike behind, and a lone flower in the battlefield to remember them by. If the player has collected all 22 machines by replaying Road Trip on New Game +, upon reaching Gigantes, it will steal all of the rider's machines and transform into Hyper Gigantes. With no machine left to combat the even greater threat, Noir Dedede comes the rescue and summons the Dragoon from the sky and the Hydra from the ground below. It then offers the rider to choose one of the legendary machines, where it rides the machine not chosen. During battle, Noir Dedede draws Hyper Gigantes' attention away from the player. Once Hyper Gigantes is defeated, Noir Dedede flys a combination of Dragoon and Hydra into its core to create a bridge of light that leads straight to Galactic Nova. Once Galactic Nova has been defeated and the true ending obtained, Noir Dedede is unlocked as a rider. By completing the Road Trip Checklist, Noir Dedede Color 2 will additionally be unlocked.

Trivia

- Noir Dedede's role in Kirby Air Riders parallels King Dedede 's role in Kirby's Adventure. - Both try to stop a powerful threat (Gigantes and Nightmare, respectively), but their methods of stopping the threat (preventing Gigantes from activating and trapping Nightmare in the Fountain of Dreams, respectively) are misunderstood and seen as problematic (destroying riders ' machines and removing the Star Rod from the fountain and breaking it into pieces, respectively). - Noir Dedede is the only rider that cannot be used in Road Trip, even after being unlocked; this is likely due to its story-relevance.
